Sd.Kfz.250/9 was ordered in March of 1942 and first three prototypes were tested
on the Eastern Front later in the year. The vehicle was to replace wheeled vehicles
and after successful tests, production of Sd.Kfz.222
was stopped and Sd.Kfz.250/9 became its replacement. Production began in May of 1943.
Early models used the complete turret of the Sd.Kfz.222,
while later models used Haengelafette 38 mount.
